Description

The Mill House is a former mill house, now a detached house, dating from the early 17th century, with an enlargement in the late 17th century. It is constructed of random rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and a concrete tile roof. The main building is two storeys with an attic, and an addition to the west forms an L-shaped plan. The north front has two gables, each topped with a small ball finial. The original part of the house is on the left, and has 17th-century windows which were altered when the house was enlarged. It features a three-light window with a single-light window to the left, both grouped under a hoodmould to the ground and upper floors. There's a two-light window with a hoodmould to the attic, all with chamfered mullions. Further right, a single window is present below a gable, with a three-light window to the ground and upper floors, and a two-light window to the attic, all with hoodmoulds. The roughly central doorway has a chamfered opening and a 20th-century door, with a single-light window above. The west side has two gables, one with a chimney featuring a moulded cap, and another with mullioned casement windows. The east side has a gable end on the right, displaying two off-centre stair-lights, while another east-facing gable has some 20th-century altered windows. Internally, the house has been restored, but many original timber partitions remain, with their framework exposed. The earlier roof features a truss with curved feet to the principal rafters, while the later addition has an extended collar roof. The building stands on the south side of a mill pond, which formerly served Little Mill.
