Description
The Fernery is a former row of two houses that has been converted into a detached house. It dates from the early to mid-18th century, with a later 18th-century addition. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, featuring ashlar and rendered brick chimneys, and has a Welsh slate roof. It is two stories tall with an attic.
The front of the original house on the left has a two-window arrangement, with restored three-light casements on the ground floor and two-light casements above, all of which are chamfered mullioned and have hoodmoulds. There is a central doorway that features a 19th-century gabled timber porch with decorative barge boards. Above, there is a central gabled roof dormer with an iron casement. The two ridge-mounted chimneys indicate the original gable ends. To the right, there is a one-window addition with two-light chamfered mullioned casements on each floor, and the ground floor window is located where a former door was positioned. The interior has not been inspected. The Fernery is part of a group with Star Farmhouse.
