Description

The following buildings shall be added to the list:-

DIDMARTON THE STREET ST 8187 14/198 Nos 43 and 45 GV II

Pair of cottages. Late C18/early C19. Coursed limestone rubble, partly rendered to front; gabled pantile roofs; brick ridge stack to front and stone end stack to rear wing. Each cottage has parlour and adjoining stair lobby to front range and services to rear wings. 2 storeys; 4-window range. No 43 has central plank door and segmental-arched windows including 2-light wood-mullioned window to ground floor right. No 45 has flat arches over early C19 6-panelled (2 glazed) door to right and window to left; segmental arches over 2-light leaded casements to first floor. Interior: includes plank doors, panelled shutters and chamfered and plain beams; both have coppers in rear service wings. No 45 has early C19 fireplace with reeded jambs to rear and early/mid C19 fireplace with rosettes flanked by cupboards to front. Rear room to No 45 has large window, probably for lighting a room for domestic gloving or weaving. A good surviving pair of early rural workers' housing.
