Description
Nos. 7 and 8 The Street are a pair of estate cottages dating from the 18th century, originally part of a row of three. They are one storey with attics and feature timber framing with a rendered finish, topped by a thatched roof that has a decorated ridge. The cottages have two internal chimney stacks and one external chimney on the north gable wall, all with tall, plain, red brick shafts.
There are five small-paned casement windows arranged in three groups of three lights, along with three gabled dormers. The dormers have Roman tiles and 2-light casement windows, with the middle window featuring square leaded panes, and a similar lattice window located in the upper part of the north gable.
Inside, both cottages contain one ground storey room with exposed timber ceilings. The ceiling in No. 7 dates from the early 17th century, while No. 8 has a ceiling from the 16th century. However, the remaining framing displays characteristics typical of the 18th century. The roofs, which have all the rafters visible but no other components, are believed to have been removed from the Park and reconstructed on this site.
