Description
1 and 2 The Street are a pair of estate cottages dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. They are one storey with attics, constructed from timber framing and rendered, topped with a reed thatched roof. The cottages originally followed a 3-cell lobby-entrance plan but have since been converted into two separate dwellings.
The internal chimney stack features a plain red brick shaft, while an early 19th-century chimney stack is located externally on the north gable. The front of the cottages has a range of six irregularly spaced two-light casement windows with small panes, along with one gabled dormer that has a tiled roof and an old leaded casement window. There are also two 20th-century half-glazed doors.
No. 1 displays typical framing characteristics for its period, including joists set on edge, bisected studs, straight primary braces, and some reused timbers, such as one large ceiling beam.
