Description

Nos. 29 and 30 The Street are a pair of cottages dating from the 18th century. They are constructed of whitewashed brick and covered with black glazed pantiles. The cottages are two storeys high and feature four windows. On the ground floor, there are four arched-headed, two-light wooden framed casements with glazing bars, while the first floor has four straight-headed, two-light wooden framed casements with glazing bars. The building has a dentil eaves cornice, a hipped roof, and a central stack. The north side has a 20th-century glazed door, and the south side has a boarded door. These cottages appear in a block plan in Isaac Ware's "Plans for Houghton" from 1735, in its 1750 edition.
