Description
Nos. 10 and 11 The Street are a pair of cottages dating from the 18th century. They are constructed of whitewashed brick and covered with black glazed pantiles. The cottages are two storeys high and feature four windows. On the ground floor, there are four arched-headed wooden framed two-light casements with glazing bars, while the first floor has four straight-headed wooden framed two-light casements, also with glazing bars. The building has a dentil eaves cornice and a hipped roof with a central stack. A 20th-century glazed door has been inserted in the north and south returns. The cottages are shown in block plan in Isaac Ware's Plans for Houghton, published in 1735 and reissued in 1750.
