Description

Nos. 12 and 13 The Street are a pair of cottages dating from the 18th century. They are constructed of whitewashed brick and covered with black glazed pantiles. The buildings stand two storeys high and feature four windows. On the ground floor, there are four arched-headed wooden framed casements, while the first floor has four straight-headed wooden framed two-light casements with glazing bars. The cottages have a hipped roof with a central stack. The entrance is located on the returns, featuring a 20th-century inserted glazed door. These cottages appear in a block plan in Isaac Ware's "Plans of Houghton," published in 1735 and its 1750 edition.
