Description
Nos. 14, 15, and 16 The Street are a row of four almshouses built in the 18th century. They are constructed from whitewashed brick and topped with black glazed pantiles. Originally single bay cottages, they are now divided into two occupations and are single storey. On the eastern side, there are two original centre hung casements with glazing bars, while the western side features two 20th-century inserted plate glass windows. There are four doors in total, three of which are boarded, and one is a 20th-century inserted part-glazed door. The building has two ridge stacks and centre hung opening casements at the rear. The layout of the almshouses is illustrated in the block plan by Isaac Ware in his 1735 publication, with a 1750 edition available.
