Description

Nos. 25 and 26 The Street are a pair of cottages dating from the 18th century. They are constructed of whitewashed brick and topped with black glazed pantiles. The cottages are two storeys high and feature four windows. On the ground floor, there are four arched-headed wooden framed casements with glazing bars, while the first floor has two straight-headed two-light wooden framed casements, also with glazing bars. The building has a dentil eaves cornice and a hipped roof with a central stack. There is a boarded door located on the returns. The cottages appear in a block plan in Isaac Ware's Plans for Houghton, published in 1735 and reissued in 1750.
