Description
Nos. 6, 7, 8, and 9 The Street are four cottages built in the 18th century. They are constructed from whitewashed brick and topped with black glazed pantiles. The cottages are two stories high and feature a four-window central section with single window recessed outer bays. On the ground floor, there are six arched headed two-light casement windows with glazing bars, while the first floor has four central two-light straight headed casements with glazing bars, along with single outer straight headed wooden framed casements also with glazing bars. The cottages have a dentil eaves cornice and a hipped roof that includes one central ridge and two eaves level end stacks. They appear in a block plan in Isaac Ware's "Plans of Houghton" from 1735, published in 1750.
