Description
Nos. 32 and 33 The Street are a pair of cottages from the 18th century, originally divided into three separate homes. They are constructed of whitewashed brick and topped with black glazed pantiles. The cottages are two storeys high and feature five windows, with the north bay being slightly recessed. On the ground floor, there are three wooden framed arched headed casements with two lights and one cast iron two-light casement. The first floor includes four wooden framed two-light casements with glazing bars, along with one cast iron two-light casement also with glazing bars. The entrances consist of single boarded doors facing the street and south return, while the north return has an infilled 20th-century glazed door. The cottages have a dentil eaves cornice and a hipped roof with two ridge stacks. They appear in block plan in Isaac Ware's Plans for Houghton, published in 1735 and again in 1750.
