Description
The Square is an L-shaped terrace of five houses built in the early 19th century. The buildings are two storeys high, constructed of red brick with black glazed pantiles on hipped roofs. There are three internal chimney stacks, one featuring four barrel-shafts made of ornate brick. The ground storey has small-paned cross windows, while the upper storey features small-paned two-light casement windows, all set in deep reveals with slightly arched heads in the brickwork. The doors are half-glazed and date from the 20th century, complemented by 19th-century rectangular fanlights and small projecting porch roofs, with alternating flat and open pediments. On the west gable wall, there is a small straight-sided ground storey bay with a lean-to tiled roof, which includes a three-light small-paned window with a transom, and a recessed blank panel on the upper storey. This terrace is included for its group value.
