Description
Nos. 26 and 28 on The Street are cottages that have been divided into two separate homes. They date from the 16th or 17th century, with an addition likely made in the 18th century. The cottages feature a combination of rendered timber-frame and colour-washed brick, topped with a thatched roof. The layout consists of three main cells, with a fourth cell added, and there are outshuts to the left and rear.
The facade is single storey with irregular window placements. The left-hand cottage, No. 28, has a 20th-century door flanked by 18th-century casements, each with three leaded lights. The right-hand cottage also has a 20th-century door and casement set in a brick wall. There is an axial stack and a gable end stack. At the rear, there are two eyebrow dormers with pointed heads and leaded lights. Inside No. 28, the timber frame is exposed, featuring heavy scantling and a three-light diamond mullion in the rear wall, along with a queen post roof.
