Description

Brooke War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Peter on The Street in Brooke, South Norfolk. It is prominently placed on the south side of the church by the churchyard path. The memorial features a stone floriated cross atop a tall octagonal shaft with a moulded collar, which is set on a square-section corniced plinth that bears inscriptions. This entire structure is positioned on a moulded square-section base.

The inscription on the front (south) face of the plinth is incised and reads: "TO THE/ GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN/ HONOURED MEMORY/ OF THOSE/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918." The names of those who fell in the First World War are listed on the east and west faces of the plinth. On the rear, the inscription reads "1939 – 45/ (NAMES)."
