Description
The Rodmarton War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, located in the churchyard of St Peter's Church, which is also listed as Grade II*. The memorial is carved from limestone and features a Celtic cross atop a tapering octagonal shaft that rises from a square plinth. The plinth has a chamfered top and broach stops. On the east face of the plinth, which faces the churchyard path, there is an inscription that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918." The names of the fallen are listed below this text, which is painted black. The lettering was re-cut around 2009. The entire structure is supported by a square two-stepped base.
