Description
The Day Monument is a chest tomb dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is made of limestone and has a rectangular shape with a moulded plinth and capping. The tomb stands on a base that was once railed and features limestone flags. It is topped with a hipped limestone lid. Fluted Doric columns are located at each corner on the north and south sides. The north side, facing the church, has a carved oval table with a floral design in the spandrels and is inscribed in memory of Anna Maria Day, who died in 1831, and her sister Sarah Day, who died in 1860. The end faces of the tomb include dedications to other members of the Day family, although the south face panel is damaged and lacks an inscription.
