Description

The Old Vicarage is a house that likely dates from the 17th century, with its eaves raised around 1800 and a mid-19th century parallel wing added. It features a combination of rendered timber-frame and brick construction, topped with pantile and hipped slate roofs. The building consists of two parallel three-cell ranges, with a late 18th-century two-storey service wing located to the south.

The north facade, which serves as the entrance, is rendered and has three bays over two storeys. It includes a central doorcase adorned with fluted pilasters and a plain cornice, leading to a four-panel door. To the right of the door is a bow window with a curved 20-pane sash, followed by a small 20th-century window and then a 16-pane sash. On the first floor, there are two 16-pane sashes with a 12-pane sash in between. The right-hand gable return is pebbledash, while the left-hand gable return is made of painted brick. Gable-end stacks are present.

The south facade of the 19th-century range also has three bays and two storeys, featuring casement windows. The central entrance has a four-panel door, with the top two panels glazed, and is flanked by rendered pilasters, fluted consoles, and a plain cornice. There are bay windows on either side of the door and three casements on the upper floor, with all openings fitted with shutters.

Inside, the timber-framed range has been significantly altered around 1800. A notable feature in the upper room is a brick fireplace with a four-centred arch and a chamfered reveal.
