Description
Nos. 9 and 10 The Street are a pair of cottages that date from part of the 17th century and part of the early 19th century, with modernisation carried out in the mid-20th century. The cottages are one storey with attics, constructed from timber framing and rendered, topped with a thatched roof. They feature two end chimney stacks and small-paned casement windows. A prominent large central eyebrow dormer contains a pair of 2-light casement windows, with two adjacent plank doors located below it.
A 20th-century extension connects both cottages to previously detached outbuildings at the rear, which are now part of the living space. Inside No. 9, the layout reflects a typical early 19th-century cottage style, with exposed framing and ceiling joists. No. 10 is older, showcasing two separate bays of 17th-century framing, which are not complete on their own, suggesting it was originally a single-storey cottage with an end chimney stack and a later added attic. The cottages were extended and converted into two separate homes in the early 19th century, although the current symmetrical exterior is of a more recent design.
