Description
Memorial Cottages, located on the south side of The Street in Barnham, are a pair of houses that were originally built in the late 17th century and later extended to form two cottages. The buildings are one-and-a-half storeys high and feature a timber-framed structure with plastering and a thatched roof adorned with an ornamental ridge. An internal chimney stack has a plain red brick shaft.
The cottages have a basic three-cell lobby-entrance plan and include three small-paned, two-light windows, one of which has cast-iron frames and pintle hinges. There is also an eyebrow dormer that contains a two-light leaded-paned casement window, along with two plank doors.
The extensions at each end of the original structure reflect the cottage conversion. On the east side, the extension is one-and-a-half storeys tall, constructed of red brick with a black glazed pantiled roof and features an end chimney. This side includes one three-light small-paned casement window with an arched head to its surround. On the west side, the extension is also one-and-a-half storeys and is made of rubble flint and red brick, topped with black glazed pantiles. It has two two-light casements in the gable end.
