Description

The Barnham War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1919 and altered after the Second World War. It is made of granite and features a square pillar topped with a moulded pyramidal cap, resting on a square plinth and a two-stepped square base. Each face of the memorial displays a stone plaque with a leaf motif and a decorative band above. The east face bears the inscription: "IN PROUD MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918," along with the names of the fallen on the north and south faces. The west face includes the inscription: "ALSO OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE 1939 - 1945 WAR," followed by the names of the three men lost in that conflict.
