Description
Chantry Cottage is a former building that was possibly two cottages, now functioning as one detached house. It dates from the early 18th century and is constructed of coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof. The building features flush quoins, raised coped verges with kneelers, and stone end stacks that have an offset and moulded cornice, with the right-hand range raised in brick. There is an external stone stack on the left-hand range.
The main section of the cottage has two storeys and an attic in the gable end, along with a rear outshut, and a single-storey range to the left that also has an attic. The main section includes three windows with 2/1/2-light stone mullions and transoms, and a 2-light window on the ground floor flanking a central recessed plank door. This door is set in a chamfered stone surround and topped with a flat moulded stone hood supported by brackets. There is a single stone transom light in the attic on the right-hand return. A small newel light on the left side of the main range provides light to the attic stair, although the stairs have been removed at the lower level. The left-hand range features two gabled dormers with casement windows, and the ground floor has 2 and 3-light casements with a timber lintel above a blocked central opening.
