Description
Wise's is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a private house. It dates from the early 18th century and was altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed and dressed rubble stone, featuring alternating flush quoins, and has a stone slate roof with stone end stacks and one ridge stack. It is a single range of two storeys and an attic.
The front of the house has four windows, including two 2-light stone mullion and transom windows with leaded lights located between the ridge and the left end stacks. The left end stack is a flying easement of the adjoining Wise's Cottage. Below these are two 20th-century casements. The symmetrical front, dating from the 19th century, features two-storey shallow projecting embattled ashlar square bays with twin 4-pane sashes on each floor, flanking a single 4-pane sash on the first floor. There is also a large square porch with a cornice and an embattled blocking course, similar to the bays. Above this side, there are three hipped dormers with twin casements.
The right gable end facing the street has a single stone attic light with a square hoodmould and a blocked window opening on the ground floor. The left gable end also has a single stone attic light. At the rear, there are three 2-light stone mullions with square hoodmoulds, one of which is blind, and a large 19th-century gabled porch with a tile roof.
