Description
Moor Close Cottage is a house and bakehouse dating from the late 17th century, with extensions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a stone tile and slate roof with both hipped and gabled ends. The cottage has dressed stone stacks with cornices.
The layout consists of a two-room plan. The room on the left (north) is heated by a gable-end fireplace, while the right-hand room (south) has a lateral fireplace at the back and a newel stair next to the stack. In the 19th century, the eaves were raised, and outshuts were added behind the left room and at the right end, connecting the house to a bakehouse.
The exterior is two storeys high with a two-window west front, featuring two-light casements with glazing bars and a central doorway that has a gabled stone porch from the 19th or 20th century. There is a small outshut at the right end, linking the house to a projecting single-storey wing that includes a tall stack and a projecting oven at the rear. The rear (east) side has a two-storey outshut on the right and a lateral stack on the left, which is incorporated into the raised gable. The interior has not been inspected.
