Description

Radnor House is a detached house with an adjoining barn located in Ampney St. Peter. It dates from the mid to late 17th century and is constructed of random coursed rubble stone with flush quoins and a stone slate roof. The house features a low central stone ridge stack with a moulded cornice and small ball finials on each gable end.

The building has a single main range that was originally designed with a lobby entry and was initially a single storey with an attic. It has since been raised to two storeys and an attic, with a large gable on the left side that is clearly visible in the stonework. There is a small single storey rear wing on the right and another rear wing on the left, which is attached to the barn.

The façade includes three windows arranged as 3/2/3-light stone mullions with wooden casements. A continuous dripmould runs around the right-hand return, above a large area of blank wall. The ground floor originally had two 3-light windows flanking a central door, both of which are raised over each window and feature a continuous dripmould. The left side now has a 20th-century canted bay, and the door has been blocked to form a 2-light casement with a chamfered stone surround. The right side has a 3-light casement with a renewed section of dripmould above, supported by a concrete lintel.

The gable ends have a 2-light stone mullion with a square hoodmould in the attic, while the south gable end features a 3-light stone mullion on each lower floor. The entrance is located in the right-hand return and has a 20th-century flat stone hood. The barn at the rear has one original stone doorway, garage doors to the right, and various windows, mostly 2-light casements.
