Description

Numbers 3 and 4 are pairs of semi-detached villas built around 1830 to 1850. They are constructed of stucco over brick with a concealed roof and feature stucco centre ridge stacks and iron area railings.

The exterior consists of two storeys above basements, with six first-floor windows and single-storey walls that have access openings to the rear at both ends. The stucco detailing includes first-floor bands topped by Doric pilasters at the ends, as well as at the centre and outer windows, which are further adorned with a continuous frieze and cornice. The ground floor of No. 2 has horizontal rustication. The windows are 6/6 sashes throughout, with taller windows on the ground floor, all set in plain reveals with sills. The basement features 8/8 and 6/6 sashes.

The end entrances are accessed by flights of roll-edged steps leading to 3- and 4-panel doors with fanlights that have radial glazing; the door to the right is set in a raised surround, with low walls flanking the steps.

Inside, the villas retain original joinery and plasterwork, including panelled shutters for the windows, panelled doors, moulded cornices, and fireplaces. The area railings display a scrolled lozenge motif, and the adjoining walls feature round-arched openings with copings. The wall on the left side abuts No. 2 Montpellier Grove.
