Description

A pair of semi-detached villas, dating from approximately 1830 to 1850, located in Cheltenham. The villas are constructed of stucco over brick, with a slate roof and a tall stuccoed party wall. They feature lateral stacks. The exterior displays stucco detailing including quoins to the angles, a tooled first-floor band, tooled architraves to the first-floor windows, and sills on feet to both ground and first floors. A dentil cornice is supported by modillion brackets. Throughout the property are 2/2 horizontal-pane sash windows, taller on the ground floor and set in plain reveals. Ground-floor windows are surmounted by dentil pedimented shutter boxes. Each villa has an entrance at the ends, with flights of roll-edged steps leading to round-arched openings. These openings have tooled heads on corbel brackets and keystones, framing recessed, panelled doors with sidelights and overlights. The interior retains original joinery and plasterwork. Attached to the sides of the steps are arrowhead railings with anthemions to the standards and a shorter inner stick balustrade. The buildings form part of a well-preserved group of villas.
