Description

This is a terrace of houses, dating from approximately 1806 to 1835, located on Fairview Road in Cheltenham. The buildings are constructed with stucco over brick and have concealed roofs, featuring an iron frieze. The terrace extends to 35 first-floor windows, mostly three windows per house, with exceptions including number 130 (one window), numbers 132 and 142 (two windows each). Architectural details include Doric pilasters between the houses and at the ends, first-floor bands, a continuous crowning frieze, a cornice (missing from number 138), and a parapet with copings. The original windows are mostly 6/6 sashes, although some first-floor windows are blind. Numbers 118 and 122 have tripartite ground-floor windows, with 6/6 sashes flanked by 2/2 sashes. The entrances are primarily located to the right, with four entrances on the left side; number 142 features an entrance on its angled return. The original entrances are 4-panel doors with overlights, the entrance to number 122 having a fanlight with a batwing and circular glazing bars. The angled return to number 142 has two 2/2 sash windows and a blind opening, alongside a 3-panel door with overlight, and is capped by a tent hood with an ornate frieze. The interior has not been inspected. Fairview Road was developed from around 1806 on land that had been enclosed by an Act of Parliament in 1806 to facilitate its development for building.
