Description
A terrace of five houses, numbered 69 to 75, and Carlton Lodge with attached railings, dating from approximately 1820 to 1850. The houses are constructed of stucco over brick, with a concealed roof. Tall brick end and party-wall stacks rise above the roofline, and there are iron porches.
The houses are two storeys high with a basement level, and feature 14 first-floor windows (two to the right, otherwise three per house). Stucco detailing includes end pilasters, and a pilaster interruption to the continuous first-floor band at the entrance bay of number 75. There is a frieze, cornice, and blocking course. The windows are largely 6/6 sash windows in plain reveals with sills; blind boxes remain to the first floor of number 73. The entrances to the right feature flights of steps leading to 3-, 4-, and 6-panel, part-glazed doors, each with an overlight often containing margin-lights. A further entrance to the right return is within a solid porch with a tooled parapet, and has two replacement doors. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
The tent porches have uprights with scrolled motifs and openwork friezes. The area railings are characterised by stick balusters, an X-motif balustrade, and lancets, though some have been renewed. The railings are attached to Carlton Lodge, numbers 69 and 75.
