Description
This house, now flats, was built around 1820 to 1850. It is constructed of brick with an ashlar facade, and has a concealed roof. The building is three storeys high with a basement, and has five windows on the first floor. A service range is set back to the right return. Tuscan pilasters run through the ground and first floors, marking the ends and outer windows, and are topped by an architrave, frieze, and cornice. Similar pilasters extend to the second floor, also with an architrave, frieze, and cornice. There are two blind windows on the ground and first floors at the left side of the facade; otherwise, all windows are 6/6 sashes in plain reveals with sills. The central entrance is within a solid Tuscan porch, featuring a 6-panel door with an overlight containing glazing bars. The left return has a three-window range with Tuscan pilasters between the windows and at the ends, topped by a crowning entablature. The first and second floors have 6/6 sashes, taller on the first floor, while the ground floor has 1/1 sashes. The ground and first-floor windows are contained within tooled architraves. The right return features 3/6 sashes. The interior was not inspected. Balconies with a Carron Company heart-and-anthemion motif are located outside the first-floor windows on the left return. The railings in front of the porch and along the front and side facades have a concave lozenge motif. The building forms a group with, and abuts, number 38 Priory Street.
