Description

Numbers 13, 15, and 17 are a terrace of three houses built around 1810 to 1830, located on the south side of Priory Street in Cheltenham. The houses are constructed of stucco over brick, featuring a concealed roof, stucco party-wall stacks, and wrought-iron balconies, window boxes, and railings.

The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement, with nine first-floor windows arranged as three for each house. Architectural details include horizontal rustication on the ground floor, a first-floor band, and fluted aprons beneath six of the first-floor windows on the right. To the left, there is a frieze with pediments above the left and centre windows, and a cornice with a blocking course to the right. The windows are primarily 6/6 sashes, where original, set in plain reveals with sills. The entrances on the right feature six-fielded-panel doors, with the upper panels raised and fielded, and the lower panels flush and fluted, topped with overlights that include margin-lights. The basements contain 3/3 and 6/6 sash windows.

On the right return, there is horizontal ground-floor rustication, a first-floor band, and three blind first-floor windows framed in tooled architraves, along with two additional blind windows.

Inside, the houses are noted for retaining original joinery, including panelled shutters on some windows. The subsidiary features include individual balconies on the right side of the first floor, which have embellished rods and a central scrolled lozenge motif. The ground-floor window boxes on the right display a concentric circle motif, and the area railings to the right also feature a scrolled lozenge motif.
