Description

Number 38 is a circa 1820-1850 terraced house with attached area railings. Constructed of ashlar over brick, with a double-pitch slate roof, and a brick and stucco stack to the left end, the house has three storeys and a basement. The exterior features a 6/6 sash window arrangement where original, with sashes in plain reveals and sills. The right-hand entrance has a flight of roll-edged steps leading to a 5-fielded-panel door, with sidelights and an overlight featuring decorative glazing bars. Basement windows are 3/6 sashes. The interior remains uninspected. The attached area railings are wrought iron, incorporating a scrolled lozenge motif similar to the party border on the right-hand side. A continuous first-floor balcony is present, with a Carron Company double-heart-and-anthemion motif balustrade. The building abuts Number 9 Carlton Street and forms a single block with that property.
