Description

Numbers 8 to 22, and the attached railings to number 16, form a terrace of eight houses built around 1820 to 1850. The houses are constructed of brick with stucco facades, covered by slate roofs. They have brick and stucco end and party-wall stacks, along with cast- and wrought-iron porches and railings.

The houses are two storeys high with basements, displaying a total of 17 first-floor windows (two per house, except for number 22 which has three). Number 22, positioned at the left end, is taller and features an entrance range to its right side; service ranges are located at the rear. A first-floor band is present, with a surviving cornice on numbers 14, 16, and 20. A low parapet and copings are consistent throughout the terrace. The windows are primarily 6/6 sashes, some with margin lights, and 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes also with margin lights where original. Later windows are mainly 1/1 and 2/2 sashes. All windows are set in plain reveals with sills, with the ground-floor sashes at number 22 being raised on feet. The main entrances are on the right-hand side, with mostly original 5-panel doors and overlights. The door at number 22 is a replacement from the mid-20th century. A 6/6 staircase window with radial glazing to the head is located on the left return side of number 8. The interior of the houses was not inspected. The porches, excluding those at numbers 8 and 22, have scroll motifs on the stanchions and tent roofs. The area railings to number 16 feature a concave lozenge motif.
