Description
Two attached houses, numbered 7 and 8 Berkeley House, were built around 1810 to 1820 in Cheltenham. They appear on the 1820 Post Office Map. The houses are constructed of stucco over brick, with slate roofs and brick and stucco stacks. The front elevation has nine first-floor windows, arranged 3:6, with floor bands, a frieze, and a cornice. The windows are primarily 1/1 sashes, taller to the first floor, although the second floor windows are 3/3 sashes. The entrances have five-fielded-panel doors with a lozenge frieze and fanlights featuring a batwing and circle motif. A 1/1 sash window is present on the left return. The rear of the houses retain several 6/6 sashes. The interior was not inspected when the listing was created. The balconies have a distinctive rod-and-star motif with a central scrolled panel, an early design feature in Cheltenham. The wrought-iron railings have a spearhead design along the steps and across the front.
