Description
Number 29 is a terraced house located on Hewlett Road in Cheltenham, built around 1820 to 1834. It appears on Merrett's 1834 Map but not on the Post Office Map of 1820. The house is constructed of stucco over brick, featuring a concealed roof and stucco stacks at the right end. It has iron window guards and railings.
The exterior consists of three storeys with an attic and basement, and it has three first-floor windows. Notable stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication on the ground floor, which is drawn into voussoirs over the door, as well as bands, a frieze, and a cornice over the second floor. The house is topped with a low parapet and copings. It features 6/6 sash windows throughout, with two on the second floor and attic storey, and taller ones on the first floor, all in plain reveals except for the first-floor windows which have sills. The entrance, located to the left, has a six-panel door with a lozenge frieze and a fanlight with batwing and circle glazing bars.
Inside, the house retains original joinery, including panelled shutters on some windows, although the interior was not fully inspected. The first-floor window guards have embellished rods, and there are stick area railings. Historically, the house was known as Hewlett Street according to Merrett's Map.
