Description

A terrace of 18 houses, numbered 1 to 35, was built around 1830 to 1840. The houses are stucco-faced over brick, with concealed roofs and brick party-wall stacks. The terrace has two storeys and 38 first-floor windows, with two windows per house, except for three houses on the right where there are three windows each. Stucco detailing includes Doric pilasters to the party walls, except for five houses on the left. These pilasters interrupt the first-floor band, which is topped by a crowning entablature, a low parapet, and copings. The windows are mostly 2/2 sashes, with some ground-floor windows being tripartite with 2/2 sidelights. Several first-floor openings are blind. All windows are in plain reveals and have sills. Original entrances feature 3-panel doors with overlights; a cambered-arched opening on the right now has 20th-century doors. The interior has not been inspected. Several houses in the area are shown on a map from 1834. This terrace is a substantially complete surviving example of an artisan terrace.
