Description
This is a terrace of six houses, numbered 106 to 116, built around 1835 by the builders Urch and Seabright of Fairview. The houses are located on the north-east side of Fairview Road in Cheltenham. Built of stucco over brick, with slate roofs, the houses have brick party-wall stacks topped with cornices. Attached iron railings are present at numbers 108, 110 and 112.
The houses are two storeys high, with twelve first-floor windows (two per house). Number 116 occupies a corner site and features a curved angle with two additional first-floor windows to its return. Stucco detailing includes a continuous first-floor band, a frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course with copings. Original windows are 6/6 sashes to the first floor and 8/8 sashes to the ground floor. The house at number 116 has shop windows on its right side, characterized by slender mullions. Twentieth-century doors with fanlights are present on the left side of the entrances, some featuring radial glazing bars; numbers 114 and 116 have Gothic glazing bars. A further shop entrance is located on the corner angle, featuring double part-glazed doors. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
Number 116 has a verandah around its corner, on the ground floor and supported by slender columns. Fairview Road was developed from around 1806, built on fields that were enclosed by an Act of Parliament in 1806 to allow their development for building.
