Description

These boundary walls and railings, with gates and piers, enclose the west and south sides of the Church of All Saints' churchyard. They were built between 1865 and 1868, designed by John Middleton. The walls form an L-shaped layout. They are constructed of stone with ashlar copings and piers. The walls extend for approximately 40 metres, punctuated by two tall piers with chamfered plinths, rectangular shafts, and cogged moulding to the cornice, topped by flattened pyramidal caps. The walls are topped with iron railings featuring three levels of rails, embellished bars, dogbars, and foliate arched braces. Two pairs of double gates incorporate similar decorative motifs. A similar section of walls and railings runs for approximately 40 metres along All Saints’ Villas Road, including two pedestrian gates with iron hinge posts. These walls and railings represent a significant feature of the streetscape and contribute to the setting of the Church of All Saints.
