Description
Pillar box located on the east side of the junction with All Saints' Road in Cheltenham. This pillar box was built between 1866 and 1879 and is made of cast iron. It was designed by J.W. Penfold and manufactured by the Cochrane Grove Company of Dudley. The pillar box is hexagonal and features an elaborate leaf-decorated crest along with the lettering 'VR'. Cheltenham is home to eight of the 94 surviving Penfold type Victorian pillar boxes that are believed to remain in the country. Other examples can be found in Bayshill Road, College Lawn, Douro Road, Evesham Road, Lansdown Road, Montpellier Walk, and St Paul's Road.
