Description
Northlands is a villa built around 1840 to 1850, likely by builder Edward Cope. It features a stucco exterior over brick with a renewed tile roof and end stucco stacks, designed in the Tudor Gothic style. The building has two storeys, a basement, and attics, with three first-floor windows. The end bays project forward and are gabled. Notable stucco details include a continuous sill band on the first floor, hoodmoulds with head-stops on the ground floor, and label-stops on the first-floor openings. The ground floor has three-light mullion and transom casement windows, while the first floor features pairs of 1/1 sash windows with a central mullion. The gabled roof dormer has a 2/2 sash window. The central entrance is within a four-centre-arched recess, with panelled double doors, sidelights, and an overlight with margin-lights. The villa has wide eaves and decorative barge-boards. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the Circus was laid out by Cope between 1840 and 1850 on land purchased from Joseph Pitt, although the overall layout of the Pittville Estate was designed by John Forbes.
