Description
Stanbrooke House and Rathlin are a pair of semi-detached villas built around 1840-1850, likely by builder Edward Cope. The villas feature stucco over brick with a hipped slate roof and tall stucco stacks at the ends and rear, along with iron window boxes.
The exterior consists of two storeys above a basement, with four first-floor windows, where the second and fourth windows project slightly forward. The entrance bays are set back on the sides; the left bay has two storeys, while the right bay is a single storey. Notable stucco details include a sill band at the first floor, tooled architraves around the first-floor windows, and cornices on console brackets above the ground-floor windows. The windows are 6/6 sashes, with larger ones on the ground floor. The entrances feature steps leading up to double four-panel doors with overlights. The main range has an eaves band and wide eaves.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the Circus was laid out in 1839-1840 by Cope on land purchased from Joseph Pitt, although the overall layout of the Pittville Estate was designed by John Forbes.
