Description
This building, originally a villa and now divided into two dwellings, was constructed around 1840 to 1850. It was designed by Edward Cope and is built of stucco over brick, with a slate roof and stucco chimney stacks. The design is in the Tudor Gothic style.
The villa is two storeys high with a basement, and has three windows on the first floor. The ends of the building project forwards and are gabled, with a two-storey, single-window range set back on the left side. A sill band runs along the first floor. The windows are mullion and transom style, and those on the first floor are pairs of sashes with a central mullion, all in plain surrounds with sills and hoodmoulds to the outer windows. The central entrance, on the east side, has a Gothic surround, stepped buttresses with pinnacles, and an arcaded frieze. It features double doors with four panels and a pointed overlight with Gothic glazing bars. The ground floor has three-light mullion and transom windows. The eaves are wide and have finials. The range on the left has six-over-six sash windows and a 20th-century porch with a panelled door.
The interior was not inspected. The villa is located within Pittville Circus, which was laid out in 1839–40 by Cope on land acquired from Joseph Pitt, although the original layout of the Pittville Estate was designed by John Forbes.
