Description

37 and 39 Tivoli Road are a pair of semi-detached houses built around 1834 to 1850, with some later alterations. They are constructed of stucco over brick and feature a slate roof, although the left side has an artificial slate. Designed in the Tudor Gothic style, the houses stand two stories high with basements and attics in the gables. The front facade includes four first-floor windows, with the end gabled bays projecting slightly forward.

On the first floor, there are paired 4/4 sash windows, with the outer windows featuring hoodmoulds. A moulded band runs along the first floor. The ground floor has outer tripartite windows, which consist of a 2/2 sash window flanked by 1/1 sash windows, all under hoodmoulds. At the center, there is a shared tall porch with a parapet, offset buttresses, and roll-moulded openings. The parapet is decorated with a band of traceried ornament, and the entrance features double 8-panel doors with pointed lights and divided overlights. The basements are concealed from view, and the attics have a combination of 1/1 sash and casement windows, with finials adorning the gables. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the houses on Tivoli Road, originally known as Tivoli, are depicted in Merrett's Map of 1834.
