Description

These five gate piers with railings form part of a carriage sweep serving numbers 107 and 109, dating from approximately 1833 to 1850. The piers are constructed of stucco over brickwork. They are square in plan, featuring a shaped plinth, indented panels on the shaft, a crowning band, a frieze, a cornice, and a pyramidal cap. The railings are iron, with arrowhead detailing, bars, and dogbars, terminating in anthemion finials that ramp up towards the piers, extending for approximately 8 metres. Two additional gate piers are present. These piers are part of a larger group serving a carriage sweep and boundary, incorporating a pair of gate piers to number 109. They represent a significant original streetscape feature within The Park and are part of a noteworthy group of similar piers.
