Description

This is a villa dating from approximately 1834 to 1850. It is constructed of stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof and four end stacks of stucco.

The exterior features two storeys plus a basement, with three windows on the first floor. The design utilizes a double-depth plan with a central hallway, and includes stucco detailing such as full-height Doric pilasters to the ends and between the windows, and a first-floor band to the outer bays. The first floor has tripartite windows; the outer windows are tripartite with 6/6 sashes between 2/2 sashes, and the central window is a 6/6 sash with margin-lights. The ground floor also has tripartite windows, featuring 1/1 horned sashes. The outer ground-floor windows are fitted with louvred shutters. Basement windows are 8/8 sashes. All windows are in plain reveals with sills. A flight of eight roll-edged steps leads to a Doric pilastered porch with a pediment, which contains a four-panel door with sidelights and an overlight.

The interior was not inspected during the listing process.

Historically, the villa was the residence of Sir Peter and Lady Scarlett. Houses on Tivoli Road, originally named Tivoli, are depicted on Merrett’s Map of 1834.
