Range Of Farmbuildings About 20 Metres North Of Lower Carley Farmhouse

This is a range of farm buildings located about 20 meters north of Lower Carley Farmhouse, built in the 1830s and contemporary with the house. Constructed from stone rubble, the buildings have asbestos slate roofs that are gabled at the ends. The range includes a central threshing barn and stables with a loft over to the right. The threshing barn is slightly set forward and features a large entrance under a slate canopy supported by cheeks with granite kneelers. There is a 20th-century door and a smaller door on the front to the right. The stables have three entrances under stone voussoirs, with one entrance blocked and another partly blocked. There are two loft entrances, one blocked, and a rectangular pitching eye above. To the right of the threshing barn is a shippon with a loft over, which has a symmetrical front with a central entrance flanked by openings under stone voussoirs. The central entrance to the loft is flanked by two rectangular pitching eyes. The interior has not been inspected. Lower Carley Farm was built for the Lifton Estate, and this range is one of the best-preserved examples of the estate's farm buildings, maintaining an unspoilt facade alongside the farmhouse.
