Description
This is a range of planned farm buildings dating from around 1830 to 1840, located immediately south-southwest and south of Stancombe Farmhouse. The buildings are constructed from slate rubble. The barn to the south features a scantle slate half-hipped roof. The stables to the northwest have a corrugated asbestos roof with gabled ends.
The overall layout is L-shaped, built around the south and west sides of a cobbled open farmyard, with the farmhouse to the north and a shippon to the east. The bank barn to the south has five ground floor shippon doorways with cambered stone arches, along with two loft doors also featuring cambered stone arches, located at the center and right above. The barn has rear access at a higher ground level.
To the west of the barn, there is another farm building, possibly a root store, which has a loft above and a lower roof level. This building includes a ground floor cart entrance, a loft door above, and windows on both floors to the right, all with cambered stone arches.
There is a long range of stables at right angles on the west side of the yard, which have lofts above. The ground floor features alternating doorways and windows, with only three loft doors and windows above, all having cambered brick arches. There are ventilation slits on the ground floor at the south end, and a row of pigeon holes below the eaves at the north end. The north gable end has external stone stairs leading to a loft doorway. The interior has not been inspected.
