Description
This group of farm buildings, located 25 metres north of Trevell Farmhouse, dates from the early to mid 19th century. Constructed from stone rubble with ashlar stone dressings, the buildings feature a slate roof with hipped and half hipped ends, as well as a gable end for the stable.
The farm buildings are arranged in a 'U' shape around a yard and were built in several stages. On the left side is a barn used for yearlings, which has a threshing floor above. The rear consists of a series of shippons, with a stable positioned forward on the right. The right range includes additional shippons with a loft above, which is now used as a milking parlour. Originally, the threshing machinery was powered by a waterwheel located in the field below.
The buildings are two storeys high. The left-hand range was constructed in two stages, featuring ground floor openings with dressed stone arches and lintels, and a wide feeding door to the right of centre. There are double doors to the loft with a slate hood. The rear has five shippon doors, with a loft door flanked by windows on the first floor. The stable, set forward on the right, has a gable end. The right range shows shippon doors alternating with windows, with two additional windows above.
This is an especially complete and high-quality range of farm buildings, built for a farm of over 300 acres. They are still in use and have remained unaltered and unspoilt.
