Description

Darkes Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the early 19th century. It is built of stone rubble with granite quoins, and has a slate roof with gable ends, and stone rubble end stacks. The plan is double depth, with a central entrance and two principal rooms at the front, heated by the end stacks, and smaller, unheated service rooms at the rear, flanking a central stair. The front of the farmhouse has an almost symmetrical three-window arrangement. The central entrance has a six-panel door within a roughy cut granite porch, with slate hood. To the right and left of the door are two renewed 20th-century 2-light casements with dressed stone segmental arches. On the first floor, there are two 19th-century 16-pane sashes flanking a 20th-century window. The rear elevation is unaltered, with dressed stone arches to the ground floor openings and 19th-century casements on the first floor. The interior was not inspected.
