Description
Higher Cawdron is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is constructed of stone and cob, with parts that are plastered, whitewashed, and some areas clad in corrugated iron. The roof is thatched, featuring one stone lateral stack, one brick chimney at the left gable end, and another brick chimney on the ridge. The house has a three-room layout with a through passage and an L-shaped front right wing, which is partly made of cob and has a lateral stack. This wing may be the older section of the house, with a 17th-century remodelling or extension added at right angles. The building has two storeys and a three-window front on the main range, with a mix of window styles. There is a 20th-century front door beneath a timber lintel in a shallow two-storey projection. The left ground floor window is a three-light 19th-century casement with glazing bars, while the right ground floor window is a three-light 20th-century window under a timber lintel. On the first floor, there is a 20th-century casement window and a small two-light 19th-century casement with glazing bars above the front door. The front right wing has two 20th-century casement windows, and there are also 20th-century casements at the rear of the main range. The interior and roof space have not been inspected.
